First Run and Creating a Vault

When you launch Secrets Guard for the first time, you will be asked to create a new encrypted vault or open an existing vault file.

Creating a New Vault

  1. On the start screen, choose “Create New Vault”.
  2. Specify the path and file name for the vault database.
  3. Set a Master Password:
    • The master password is used to encrypt and decrypt all of your data.
    • Choose a long, memorable passphrase that contains upper- and lowercase letters, digits and symbols.
  4. Enter the master password again to confirm it.
  5. (Optional) Add a password hint to help you remember it if you get stuck.
  6. Click “Create”.

Caution

Keep in mind: If you forget your master password, it will be impossible to regain access to your stored data. For maximum security, the app has no “back door” and no cloud password reset.

Opening an Existing Vault

  1. On the start screen, choose “Open Vault”.
  2. In the dialog, select the vault database file (.sgdb / .db).
  3. Enter your master password and click “Unlock”.
