Troubleshooting
The “Start recording” button is disabled
Check that:
- for Screen region, a region is selected (the text next to the button does not say “No region selected”);
- for Application window, a window is selected in the list;
- if Microphone or System audio is enabled, a device is selected in the list below the checkbox.
The window I need is not in the “Application window” list
The list is built when the app starts. Restart Screen Recorder once the window you need is already open.
There is no sound in the recording
- Make sure the right checkbox is ticked (Microphone and/or System audio).
- Check that the correct device is selected — for example, the headphones or speakers your sound is actually playing through.
- Make sure the microphone is not muted and apps are allowed to use it: Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone.
A “Recording error” or “Failed to start recording” message appears
Try the following:
- choose a different source (for example, Monitor instead of Full screen) or a different audio device;
- check that the save folder has enough free space and that you have permission to write to it;
- update your graphics driver.
“ffmpeg not found” message
Install ffmpeg or specify its folder — see Installing ffmpeg. After installing with winget, be sure to restart the app.
“The end point must be after the start point.” message
The end point is set before (or at the same time as) the start point. Adjust the points and export again.
After trimming, the video doesn't start at the right moment
This is how fast trim works. Enable Precise trim (slower, re-encodes) and export again.
“Failed to trim/export the video.” message
Make sure the output file is not open in another program and the folder has enough free space, then try exporting with precise trim enabled.
